Rossi shared the news to his 11.1 million Instagram followers on Wednesday alongside a series of bizarre pictures of the happy couple.

Wearing a white doctor’s coat, the 42-year-old MotoGP legend holds a stethoscope up to his wife’s stomach and grins awkwardly at the camera.

“After a careful visit we can tell you that Franci is pregnant! We are waiting for a girl,” Rossi captioned the post, which quickly generated more than 1.3 million likes.

The 27-year-old Novello wrote in a separate post: “You and me will be three. My heart is full of joy.”

Rossi adopted the nickname “The Doctor” early in his MotoGP career.

The Italian champ recently explained why he values the moniker. “I don‘t think there is a particular reason, but it’s beautiful, and is important, The Doctor," he said.

“And in Italy, The Doctor is a name you give to someone for respect. It’s very important.”

Earlier this month, Rossi announced the 2021 MotoGP season would be his last after 26 years in the sport.

The nine-time world champion has previously claimed he does not intend to start a family until his motorsport career came to an close.

“I take a little more time, because in my opinion it is difficult to reconcile this life with that of a father,” Rossi said in a 2019 radio interview.

Rossi is 19th on the MotoGP standings with 28 points. The season will resume on Sunday, August 29 with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
