MotoGP 2015: Marc Marquez expected to race in Spanish GP at Jerez despite injury, surgery
MARC Marquez is expected to try and race at this weekend’s Spanish MotoGP despite undergoing surgery on a hand injured a training crash.
MARC Marquez is expected to try and race at this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix despite injuring his hand in a training accident.
The reigning MotoGP world champion fractured the little finger in his left hand while riding dirt track in his native Spain on Saturday.
“Marc was dirt track riding on Saturday when he crashed, alone,” his management team told CNN.
“There was no other bike involved in the crash itself, but he was unlucky and another bike hit his hand while he was down.”

He was immediately taken to hospital in Barcelona, where he underwent surgery to have a titanium plate attached to the injured digit.
“This will allow us to initiate functional recovery after 24 hours and give him a chance of racing at Jerez,” Dr Xavier Mir, the surgeon who performed the operation, said.
The fracture is reportedly near the joint between his finger and hand, which will impact his use of the brakes.
It is the latest blow in what has been a tough start to what is still just Marquez’s third season in MotoGP.
A mistake at the first corner at Qatar saw him fall to the tail of the field, while a clash with Valentino Rossi sent him crashing out in Argentina. He heads into this weekend 30 points behind Rossi in the standings.
His injury is also a double-blow for the factory Honda team with Dani Pedrosa still no certainty to return to action at Jerez as he recovers from surgery to alleviate arm pump.
The 29-year-old is expected to ride a supermoto bike to test out his forearm in coming days.
Test rider Hiroshi Aoyama, at Jerez for Monday’s post-race test, will once again be on standby should either rider be unfit to take part in the race weekend.
