Renault Sport slam moaning Max Verstappen with brutal blog quip

WHILE Red Bull is predicted to struggle in Brazil, Daniel Ricciardo’s future team have slammed his current teammate.

WHILE Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen are teammates this year, their teams appear to be stoking the fire of a future feud between the two.

Red Bull have thrown some veiled criticisms at Ricciardo after agreeing to join the rebuilding team at Renault.

Renault are the engine suppliers of Red Bull this season and Ricciardo’s current team have also criticised the supplier for the Australian’s woes this year, which has seen him not finish a race eight times.

Red Bull have also blocked Ricciardo from doing Pirelli tyre tests with Renault.

But Renault has been getting its own slams and the team couldn’t resist making a sneaky jab at 20-year-old teammate of their future charge.

In a blog ahead of the weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix, Renault got in the sneaky barb while comparing the populations of the last F1 round in Mexico and this week’s race in Brazil.

“A party atmosphere is one similarity between Mexico and Brazil, with another being the sheer volume of people living in the two host cities. With a combined population of 20 million, which may or may not be equivalent to the number of times Max Verstappen has moaned about something this season, these two back-to-backs are physically HUGE.”

It’s a hilarious swipe but it could intensify the rivalry between the teams and the drivers into the future.

Ricciardo has had an unhappy finish to the season with Red Bull as he has been unable to finish the last two races, and four of the last seven.

After the last round in Mexico, Ricciardo said he felt “hopeless”.

“You know, honestly, now where I am, I don’t see the point of coming on Sunday, I don’t see the point of doing the next two races,” Ricciardo said.

“I haven’t had a clean race or weekend in so long. I’m not superstitious or any of this, but the car’s cursed. I don’t have any more words.

“Helpless I think is the best word. Even today, you know, the starts have been good all weekend, the practice starts, and for the race start, it’s all over the place with the pre-start.

“Just things are happening on Sunday which I’ve got no more explanation for. The car … I’ll let Gasly drive it, I’m done with it.”

Ricciardo also went out early in the US, where Red Bull chief adviser Helmut Marko predicted a bleak two years ahead for the Aussie.

“Poor him, he will have to live with these problems for another two years,” Marko said, according to grandprix247.com.

Ricciardo put his fist through a wall after the US Grand Prix.

This weekend might not be any better for Ricciardo with Verstappen saying Red Bull will struggle in Brazil.

The team hasn’t done well in the past with just one podium since 2014.

“In general Interlagos doesn’t suit our car that well, but after finishing on the podium there in 2016 and winning last week in Mexico, anything can happen in the race,” Verstappen said.

“I’ve had some great battles and overtakes there and I’m hoping for another exciting race.”

Ricciardo’s best finish in Brazil was a sixth-place finish in 2017 but he wants to go out a winner with Red Bull.

“It’s a track that isn’t always that easy to pass on, but last year proved that it can be done and I’m looking forward to going back,” he said.

“The lap is quite short and lacks high-speed corners but it’s definitely grown on me over the years.

“The weather can also play a big part in this race, so let’s hope the on-track action can live up to the off-track atmosphere.

“It goes without saying that I’m looking for a strong finish to round off the season with the team and I will be pushing as hard as ever to achieve that.”
