A meme doing the rounds on social media caught the eye of the 2007 world champion, but he decided to add a little something extra to the images.

A side-by-side collage shows off a shirtless James Hunt holding a cigarette between his fingers as he knocks back a drink.

Next to him is the six-time world champion Hamilton dressed head to toe in a matching outfit, wearing pink socks with bright white sneakers as he poses on a scooter.

Raikkonen topped off the image with the brilliant caption: “Evolution of a Formula 1 driver”.

He followed up the Hamilton swipe with an image of himself looking slightly intoxicated, with a cigarette also lodged in between his fingers, with the caption: “Don’t worry, not all hope is lost yet!”

Some more gold.
Some more gold.

Raikkonen has never been shy about his admiration for Hunt, the 1976 Formula 1 world champion, with the second image linking him to the former British superstar’s lifestyle.

Hunt was a rock star in the racing world, always living his life to the fullest and never taking the sport too seriously.

Raikkonen has continually hinted at Hunt being his hero, even entering a snowmobile race back in 2007 under the name James Hunt.

In 2012 at Monaco he paid the ultimate tribute by wearing the same designed helmet Hunt wore during his 1976 season.

The iceman has shown throughout his own stellar career he doesn’t take the sport as seriously as his fellow rivals with the greatest example coming in 2006 at Monaco.

After his race came to an end on lap 51, Raikkonen walked off the track and headed straight for his yacht to join his friends instead of heading back to the garage.

The 40-year-old’s time in the sport may be reaching its end, but we hope he never retires. Not if he keeps producing this gold anyway.
