Formula One icon Martin Brundle has produced yet another hilariously awkward grid walk at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The Sky Sports commentator has become renowned for his pre-race grid walks where he sidles up to drivers and celebrities for a quick chat. It’s car crash television but in the best kind of way.

Brundle started smoothly enough ahead of Sunday night’s Grand Prix, chatting to AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda, Australian pop star Kylie Minogue and actor Orlando Bloom, who took the opportunity to promote his upcoming movie.

But as he moved on and looked to grab Red Bull team principal Christian Horner for a quick word, a Red Bull staff member blocked his path and wouldn’t let Brundle through.

“No, nuh-uh. I’m going to get in f***ing s**t, dude,” the Red Bull crew member said in Brundle’s direction, prompting a Sky Sports producer to tell him: “We’re live! We’re live!”

Brundle then added: “Yeah sorry for the language there everybody.”

It was unclear if the rogue Red Bull man was playing bodyguard for Horner and tennis legend Maria Sharapova, who was nearby on the grid and had presented Max Verstappen with his pole position trophy after qualifying.

After all that kerfuffle, Red Bull boss Horner was more than happy to speak with Brundle about the race.

But the chaos didn’t end there. Brundle then approached Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for a chat.

He began: “Thibaut, Martin Brundle, Sky F1, good to see to you.

“As a Spaniard, you’ve got Fernando Alonso and the lovely Carlos Sainz.”

The problem is the football star is Belgian, not Spanish. But the Champions League winner handled it well.

Courtois replied: “Yes indeed. In Spain, we are rooting a lot for this 33rd victory of Fernando.

“He has a good starting position today so let’s see what can happen.”

Brundle then wrapped up and said: “Thank you very much.”

But as he walked away, he added: “And of course, he’s Belgian not Spanish but anyway.”

It adds to a lengthy catalogue of chaotic Brundle grid walks. Last year, he mistook NBA No. 1 draft pick Paolo Banchero for NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes.

And at the Miami Grand Prix, it was absolute bedlam as three-time F1 world champion Jackie Stewart evaded security to grab Roger Federer for a 10-second chat with Brundle.

As for the Monaco Grand Prix itself, Verstappen won ahead of Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon to extend his lead in the championship to 39 points.

Sergio Perez’s qualifying crash meant he couldn’t keep the pressure on his Red Bull teammate in second place.

Australia’s Oscar Piastri finished 10th to secure his second points finish of the season, one spot behind McLaren teammate Lando Norris.
