F1 wrap: Ricciardo opens up on smelly press conference; Verstappen’s doomsday prediction

DANIEL Ricciardo has dobbed in one of the biggest names in sport for failing to own up to his own bomb at the F1’s smelliest press conference.

Oh, you.
Oh, you.

BY NOW everyone knows the rib-tickling moment Daniel Ricciardo let out a trouser cough at the Singpore Grand Prix press conference.

The Aussie F1 gun leaked his own exhaust fume midway through the session, briefly turning the orderly panel into a laughing stock as Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas exploded in laughter.

Ricciardo hardly looked embarrassed by the hilarious affair and said he was just happy he got his Silver Arrows rival to break out into a smile.

“I’m stoked I got Bottas to laugh,” Ricciardo said in an interview with Fox Sports. “The Finns are really hard to crack.”

One look at the video below tells you Ricciardo was the only man dropping bombs on the dias, but a fresh insight from the 28-year-old has busted another man at the press conference.

“Lewis whispers to me before it and says ‘oh man, I really need to fart’,” Ricciardo said, shamelessly dobbing the three-time world champion.

“And I said ‘no crap, I do too ... you go first then I’ll go’, because I knew mine was going to be louder.”

According to Ricciardo, the fashionable Hamilton barely made a squeak as he deposited his goods.

“He went and I didn’t even hear it and I was like ‘come on man’,” Ricciardo said, “(Then I said) alright stuff it, I’m gonna go’.

“It was a good moment, I think Valtteri tasted it on his lips, it was pretty good. I’m definitely going to be a groomsman at Lewis’ wedding.”

VERSTAPPEN’S DOOMSDAY PREDICTION

Another blowout for the fiery teen.
Another blowout for the fiery teen.

Max Verstappen has every right to be bitter at this year’s Formula 1 season after failing to cross the finish line in an incredible seven races.

Mechanical failures marred the teen Red Bull for the first half of the season as he fought to capitalise on his late-2016 form — but last weekend’s horror crash-out in Singapore may have been the most deflating for Verstappen. After claiming second place on the grid, a reckless move from Sebastian Vettel sent Verstappen, Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso back to the sheds before they reached first corner.

Verstappen says his box seat at Singapore may have been Red Bull’s last chance at claiming a second victory for the year as they approach the final stretch of the 2017 calendar.

“Not as strong as at this track,” Verstappen said in reference to the year’s remaining six races.

“No, there are too many straights there. This was of course our best chance to get a good result — and that didn’t happen.

“But the whole year things haven’t gone my way. So maybe it needs to happen a couple of more times and then maybe you have a couple of years where everything goes really well for you.”
