F1 driver completely spoils ending to new Brad Pitt movie

F1 fans might not be too happy with one driver after he accidentally spoiled the ending to Brad Pitt’s new movie about the sport.

Brad Pitt’s much anticipated new film called F1 isn’t out in Australia for another month but an F1 driver has already spoiled the ending.

Most drivers from the F1 grid turned out to the film’s preview screening in Monaco ahead of this weekend’s grand prix, with Max Verstappen and Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll the only absentees.

Fox Sports, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every qualifying session and race in the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship™ LIVE in 4K. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited time offer.

F1 is the latest racing film following the likes of Sylvester Stallone’s Driven and Rush, starring Chris Hemsworth as world champion James Hunt.

Pitt and his co-stars have been spotted in the real F1 paddock over the past two years, appearing alongside the real drivers in pre-race national anthems, driving on track and taking part in post-race ceremonies on the podium.

Lewis Hamilton was heavily involved in the Apple TV production and the movie, directed by Top Gun Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski is set to be a box office hit as a realistic depiction of on-track racing.

So far details of the movie’s plot have been fairly scarce — Pitt stars as veteran driver Sonny Hayes, who is lured out of retirement to help young gun Joshua Pearce (Damon Idris) return the team to glory.

But speaking after the preview screening in Monaco, Haas driver Esteban Ocon gave away the details of the plot and revealed how the movie ends.

“Yeah, I’m not going to get too into detail,” Ocon told reporters after the screening.

“I’m sorry, I thought you guys had seen it. I know we have seen it. I think in some of the parts, you can really feel that Lewis (Hamilton) has pushed it to keep it super realistic.

“The scenes with them driving the cars, I think that’s fantastic. That’s something we’ve never seen before. I think there were some great racing scenes, for example, when there were good battles down the inside and stuff like that. Overall, it was a great movie.

“But some parts needed to make it a little bit more Hollywood, which is obviously open to all the public and needs to be catching the eye of everyone.

“For us, there are a few things that I would have liked, to be more racing focused and maybe a bit less crashing at points and stuff like that, and more racing.

“But I think overall it’s still by far the best racing movie of all time and I feature in it racing, but I’m glad I didn’t have too many incidents with Sonny Hayes,” he joked, referring to Pitt’s character.

“I think at some point there were things that didn’t really make too much sense for us as drivers being inside the paddock every time and racing. But I really see where Lewis has put his touch to manage to try and make everything as realistic as possible.”

But then Ocon went and gave away the ending, seemingly suggesting the movie doesn’t end in a fairytale comeback story many might expect.

“What I found really good is that last race, they suddenly just don’t fly and win the race,” he said.

“But it’s because of something happening in the race, putting the red flag, them not being in Q3 and then having the new tyres.”

Ocon also praised the movie for its diversity, highlighting the character of a female mechanic.

“It’s great that obviously there is a lot of diversity in the movie,” the Frenchman said.

“They really push the aspects of that, showing that we are willing to push the boundaries and there is space for everyone in all the different roles in Formula One, which is good.

“There’s a female mechanic doing pit stops, which is actually great. And she’s a big part of the winning at one point.”

Ocon then apologised to reporters after being told no one else had seen the movie yet, realising he had given too much away.

“I’m spoiling, sorry guys! But I like spoilers anyway,” he said.

“Tom Holland always spoils the new Spider-Man. It wasn’t him apparently, but all good.”

Verstappen skips premiere to stay at home

It is understood the movie screening event was mandatory but not written in their contracts to attend as it was during their free time.

The four-time world champion said: “Yeah, I notified FOM (Formula One Management) about that, so we were well aware that I wasn’t attending,”

“I wanted to spend more private time because it is private time at the end of the day.”

Many fans spotted the Red Bull driver instead streaming on Twitch at home with his Team Redline sim racing squad.

Verstappen recently became a dad after his girlfriend Kelly Piquet gave birth to their baby daughter Lily just before the Miami Grand Prix.

He added: “I just wanted to spend more time at home,

“It wasn’t a mandatory event either, it was just my private time.

“And I prefer to spend that private time at home, especially because in Formula 1 you’re away from home so much already.

“Wanting to spend more time at home on days like that is pretty normal, I think. Now that the family is growing, I definitely prefer to spend more time at home.”

Verstappen said he plans to watch the movie when it comes out in June.

“I think it’s coming out in June, so I’ll download it on Apple.

“Of course I get it, there was the opportunity to watch it, I think I’ll watch it now or in three or four weeks, that’s fine as well.

“I read good stuff in the movie, so I’m sure that it’s going to be exciting.”

The F1 movie will be released in Australian cinemas on June 26.
