Ricciardo was swiftly flown to Barcelona for his surgery and is now in the midst of the recovery process.
Ricciardo kept fans in the loop after the operation, writing on Instagram: “Hey everyone. Had surgery this morning, got my first bit of metal work so that’s pretty cool.
“Big thanks to everyone who reached out and kept my spirits up. This ain’t a setback, just all part of the comeback.”
And he has today provided fans with another update, showing off his gnarly scar alongside the caption: “Relatively unchanged.”
He posted a video of his rehabilitation on an exercise bike singing along to Olivia Rodrigo‘s “Drivers License.”
Ricciardo had initially hoped to be back for the Singapore Grand Prix but looks set to miss a few more races yet.
In the meantime, Liam Lawson is deputising in his place for AlphaTauri.
Ricciardo had only just returned to F1 after starting this season without a seat.
After Alpha Tauri axed Nyck De Vries, Ricciardo joined AlphaTauri and raced in the Hungarian and British Grand Prixs.
Despite being desperate to return in order to secure a place at a team next season, it is understood that Ricciardo is taking no chances with his recovery.
The Australian only plans to return to the cockpit once fully fit.
After the Italian Grand Prix, it was former world champion Nico Rosberg who couldn’t resist dropping a little rumour bomb in a chat with Sky Sports.
“Where’s he (Norris) going?” said Rosberg, the 2016 world champion with Mercedes.
“Next year already, I hear there’s a switch coming.”
Norris is said to be close to Red Bull main driver Verstappen, with the Dutchman quoted as saying “we talk about it” in terms of a match-up between the pair.
“But he’s contracted to McLaren for a long time,” Verstappen added.
“We’ll see what happens in the future.”
