British model and actress Cara Delevingne has responded after she was slammed for snubbing F1 icon Martin Brundle during his grid walk at the British Grand Prix.

The former F1 driver turned Sky Sports commentator’s grid walks have become iconic, despite often being more cringeworthy than insightful.

It often produces car crash television, as seen when Serena Williams ignored Brundle and triple F1 world champion Jackie Stewart evaded security to grab Roger Federer for a 10-second chat with the man with the microphone.

But regardless, they have become a staple of the pre-race routine for fans — and they don’t react well when the 64-year-old is ignored.

After a tense exchange with rapper Megan Thee Stallion at the 2021 US Grand Prix, the rules were even changed, denying celebrities’ bodyguards on the track.

Since then, the celebrities have been on much better behaviour with Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones even gushing over Brundle at the Spanish Gran Prix last month.

But it seemed like Delevingne didn’t get the memo when she brushed off Brundle at Silverstone.

Brundle approached the singer and actor, brushing past a man who told him Delevingne wouldn’t be speaking.

Brundle replied: “She doesn’t want to talk? But that’s the deal now. Everybody talks on the grid.”

He asked Delevingne: “Can we have a quick chat? Sky F1. The deal is everybody has to speak.”

Delevingne responded: “I can’t hear anything. I’m so sorry.”

Brundle cut his losses, roasting Delevingne by muttering: “I’m sure it would have been extremely interesting,” his comment dripping in sarcasm.

But Delevingne replied via Twitter after she was slammed on social media.

After a supporter said Brundle had manufactured the moment for controversy, Delevingne replied: “I was told to say no so I did. Thank you for seeing both sides xxx”.

Another Twitter user questioned why an agent would refuse to let her speak to Brundle, and Delevingne replied: “It wasn’t an agent, it was an F1 representative”.

However the comments didn’t quite appease the critics, who questioned why she couldn’t have had a couple of words with Brundle despite what any “F1 representative” said.

Later she added: “Anyway, I had so much fun today and was so happy to be there no matter what anyone else may think x”.

However, her comments did little to deflect the criticism.

Other celebrities including actor Florence Pugh, former One Direction star Liam Payne, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and singer Sam Ryder were more than happy to talk to Brundle before the race.

Many have called for an end to allowing celebrities on grid walks to ensure that Brundle’s interviews can be all about the F1 — but that would rob fans of the segment that provides more drama than the opening lap of the race.

The race was yet another win for Max Verstappen but it was a massive performance from McLaren.

Lando Norris finished second, while Aussie Oscar Piastri said he was “disappointed” despite only just missing out on his first podium in fourth after a stunning drive.
