WIGGLE High5 Pro Cycling rider Chloe Hosking has started the women’s WorldTour with a bang by claiming the overall victory in a major cycling tour in Shanghai

WIGGLE High5 Pro Cycling’s Chloe Hosking has started the women’s WorldTour with a bang, claiming the overall honours in the Tour of Chongming Island.

The Australian cyclist moved into the lead of the Chinese tour on Sunday before securing the overall honours on Monday.

Hosking needed to closely monitor the form of one major rival — Leah Kirchmann (Liv-Plantur) — to ensure she drew first blook in the prestigious UCI series.

While Ting Ying Huang (Chinese Taipei) won the final stage Hosking had the better of gher rival to collect the overall win.

“I’m so proud of our team,” an elated Hosking said

“The girls really rose to the occasion today and rode like they were protecting the yellow jersey.

“I kind of felt like the proud mother hen sitting at the back of the peloton and just watching them control everything.’’

On Sunday Hosking gave her mum a Mother’s Day present to remember.

With her mother watching from the roadside, Hosking raced into the lead of the Tour of Chongming Island courtesy of a powerful sprint which also delivered the Australian stage three honours.

In tough conditions on a technical course, Hosking outsprinted Canadian Leah Kirchmann (Liv-Plantur) by half a length at the finish line. Jip van den Bos (Parkhotel Valkenburg) finished third.

“Mum is here watching so it’s fantastic to win with her here,” Hosking said.

“I mean, Australia’s just a short 13-hour flight away, so how could she miss it?”
