US Olympic skiing hopeful knocked unconscious after terrifying fall

There were scary scenes in the US when an aspiring Olympic skier was knocked unconsciousness after taking a scary tumble.

Professional skier George McQuinn was knocked unconscious after a dangerous fall while competing in FIS Freestyle World Cup event in Deer Valley, Utah.

The scary scene was caught on video and showed the Team USA moguls racer appearing to hit his head on the last jump of the course, the New York Post reports.

His body then seemed to go limp as he slid down the mountain on his stomach, face-first.

US Freestyle team communications liaison Lara Carlton said shortly after the crash that McQuinn had regained consciousness and was “seeking medical evaluation,” per The Salt Lake Tribune.

After the crash, McQuinn took to his Instagram story to share a selfie that showed red cuts on his face, while giving a “thumbs up” gesture.

“Gnarly crash today but I’m OK,” McQuinn wrote over a clip of the harrowing accident.

The situation paused the competition for 15 minutes, and resumed with Canada’s Mikael Kingsbury, the world leader and defending Olympic gold medallist in moguls.

“This one is for him,” Kingsbury said, per the Tribune.

“I know this was his first super final. He’s an exciting skier with a bright future. I just hope he’s OK and we get to ski in a super final in the future together.”

McQuinn was the only American to make the super final in Friday’s World Cup moguls competition. The event is Team USA’s final qualifier for the Beijing Winter Olympics, beginning on Feb. 4.
