Surfer Mitch Parkinson experienced the pain of the passive-aggressive WhatsApp message on the weekend, after raising the ire of World Surfing League administrators following a piece of ingenuity at a Challenger Series event.

Competing in a trial event on the Gold Coast at Snapper Rocks, Parkinson opted to take a shortcut to get to the point from where he could enter the water.

Not wanting to run all the way up the beach, as other surfers opt to do given Snapper is a long wave, Parker hitched a ride on his mate‘s e-bike, getting to the point in express time.

On a surface level, it was a move that saved Parkinson valuable minutes and helped him get a jump start on other contestants heading back into the water.

However, WSL administrators were not impressed with Parkinson’s actions and quickly took to the Challenger Series WhatsApp Group to lay down the law.

“FYI a Surfer in the Trials today used an electronic scooter to get up the point. This will not be allowed in the Challenger Series event,” a message from an admin read.

Parkinson won a Qualifying Series 3000 in 2019 in Sri Lanka and is the cousin of former world champion Joel Parkinson.

Mitch Parkinson also made headlines in the surfing world earlier this year when footage emerged of him pulling up alongside his cousin on a wave, dethroning him and stealing his board before switching onto it and then riding it alongside some dolphins.
