Police have issued an update after viral footage appeared to show a man biting the ear of a young boy that was standing near him.

Police have issued an update after a man was seen nibbling a boy’s ear on live TV during the World Snooker Championship.

The strange moment was caught on camera while seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry was speaking in a break in play during competition coverage in April, The Sun reports.

The grown man seemingly whispers into the kid’s ear before proceeding to nibble on his lobe at the event in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

Seconds later, the youngster waved to the camera - capturing the attention of the adult - who then pulled a silly face in an apparent bid to laugh off the incident.

It is not clear what the relation between the two is.

Police alerted to bizarre act on live TV broadcast

South Yorkshire Police later confirmed they were “reviewing the content”.

On Wednesday police confirmed the incident had been looked into with no further investigation required.

“Following review of the video, officers have determined no crime has been committed and the investigation has been filed,” a police statement read.

Fans were quick to comment on the disturbing video from April 25, which had amassed millions of views within a matter of hours.

One person wrote: “This is totally disgusting and he needs locking up for sure.

“He even nibbled the child’s ear then realised he was on film and shook his head like that.”

Another user said: “This is very troubling.”

A third commented: “I just threw up.”

A spokesperson for the World Snooker Tour said at the time: “We are aware of this incident and it is now a police matter.”

Police initially said: “Yesterday, Thursday 25 April at 9.20pm, we received a call to inform us of a video circulating on social media of a man and a boy at the Crucible in Sheffield.

“We are aware of the footage and officers will be reviewing the content.”
