CHECK out what else you might’ve missed in the weird and wacky world of the NFL in the first week of the playoffs.

GRONKOWSKI EROTICA

NFL erotica.
NFL erotica.

Looking for a birthday present for diehard Patriots fans? ‘A Gronking To Remember’ is the title of a bizarre erotica novel centred around New England tight end Rob Gronkowski. We’re not joking. It’s for sale on Amazon.

It’s a little too racy to quote, but it’s basically about a woman who struggles to stay faithful to her husband when all she can think about is The Gronk. Author Lacey Noonan told Slate.com that as a New England resident and Pats fan, the story came naturally, but the book’s impressive title will never beat her previous work — ‘I Don’t Care if My Best Friend’s Mom Is A Sasquatch, She’s Hot and I’m Taking a Shower With Her ... Because It’s the New Millennium.

Asked how she think Gronkowski will take the whole thing, Noonan simply said: “I hope he likes it, and reads it with the joy I had writing it.”

BABY MANZIEL

Cleveland rookie Johnny Manziel had a shocking year on the football field, failing to live up to the hype since transitioning from college to the NFL. He isn’t doing too bad off-field though. His girlfriend Colleen Crowley has been comforting the troubled quarterback since the Browns season ended in uninspiring fashion. But Crowley did him no favours this week, posting a picture on social media of Manziel as a baby, sitting beside a lamb. It’s cute, but weird.

GAME OF THRONES BLOODLUST

Author of the popular book series that inspired the hit television show, George R.R. Martin, has lashed out at refs who controversially turned around a pivotal pass interference call against Dallas in the huge wildcard game against the Lions. Martin, a Jets fan, took to his blog in outrage.

“If I was a Detroit Lions fan, I’d be screaming for referee blood about that,” Martin said.

“Picking up that flag on a FLAGRANT pass interference by Dallas in the fourth quarter was the worse [sic] call ... or non-call ... the NFL has seen since ... well ... since the non-call on the botched field goal attempt in the Giants/49ers playoff game ages ago.

“Shocking. Really shocking.”

You decide. Check out the play for yourself.

HUG-GATE

It was the question on everyone’s lips after Dallas’ miracle win over Detroit — why was the Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, hugging Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in a luxury suite? Seen in the red sweater, those not aware of Christie’s lifelong love of the Cowboys were outraged that he was not instead repping the Giants or Jets. It’s not like there is much to get excited about in regards to the latter teams though, so even if he hadn’t been rooting for “America’s team” since 1971, could you blame him for getting on the Cowboys bandwagon?

NATURE BOY PEP TALK

Indianapolis were pretty stoked about their win over Cincinnati over the weekend. And the good vibes were hard to hold back in the locker room after the game. Colts safety Sergio Brown shared his delight in the form of a smack-talk tribute to 80s wrestling hero Ric Flair And it was amazing.

DREW BREES’ SAD POST-SEASON REALITY

What does New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees do with his time when there’s no post-season games and a Super Bowl in sight? He gets pumped about mediocre-looking pancakes.

PUPPY BOWL XI IS COMING

The cuteness has arrived! Animal Planet’s annual Puppy Bowl coincides with the Super Bowl, and in recent years the ‘game’ has attracted just as many fans.

Broadcast live on Animal Planet on Super Bowl Sunday (Monday morning, Australian time), it’s very serious business. You can even sort out your Puppy Bowl fantasy team, and check out the full line-up of adorable puppies. Still not excited? Here are some highlights from previous Puppy Bowls.

SUH CRIES AT PRESS CONFERENCE

Lions enforcer Ndamukong Suh has a bad rep for stomping on ankles and dirty play. Which means few were left feeling sorry for the defensive tackle when he was brought to tears in front of media, following Detroit’s playoffs loss. It does show how much this game means to these guys though.

VINCE LOMBARDI QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Don’t succumb to excuses. Go back to the job of making the corrections and forming the habits that will make your goal possible.”

This one goes out to Arizona, who’s impressive start to the season was undone by injuries to two quarterbacks. It all ended against Carolina in the playoffs, as the team’s offense struggled to get going with third-string gunslinger, Ryan Lindley. After posting the fewest offensive yards in playoffs history, fans and critics were not happy and took to social media to verbally bash the team. The Cardinals responded on Twitter with a smack-down to the haters, and a positive attitude going forward. Onward to next season.
