FROM the weird to the downright wacky, check out what you might’ve missed around the NFL in week 13.

ANDY REID SLAMS OBSCENE GESTURE

Oh Travis Kelce.
Oh Travis Kelce.

Is this the biggest flog in the NFL? Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce found himself in some hot water when he was caught on camera during a live broadcast, seemingly mocking a referee with an obscene gesture.

“It sounds like it was a bit of an immature act,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “I normally don’t let those things go by. I’ll address that.”

Kelce took to Twitter to defend his actions, blaming Denver’s Von Miller for a cheap shot on quarterback Alex Smith, but soon deleted that tweet for it’s crude nature. Then he hit out at critics of his response on the microblogging website.

AUSSIES IN ACTION

It looks like Australian punter Brad Wing has finally found some consistency. No more errors or caving under pressure, Wing has come into his own in recent weeks. In Pittsburgh’s loss to New Orleans Wing was called on just twice to punt, and scored an average of 37.5 yards with a long punt of 47 yards. That’s a fairly cruisy day at work.

ODELL SCORES WHEN HE WANTS

Fresh off the hype of making arguably the NFL’s greatest ever touchdown catch, New York Giants rookie Odell Beckham Jnr has shown during training that his skills with the ball are not just with his sticky hands sponsored by Nike. Spinning the ball on it’s point, Beckham Jnr was filmed easily slotting through a field goal while messing around at practice.

GRONK GOES TO THE GAME, MEETS BIEBS

When he’s not in ‘Gronk Smash’ mode, New England tight end Rob Gronkowski is just a regular bro.

After losing their huge match-up against Green Bay, Gronk and some of his teammates welcomed the distraction of watching some b’ball in their downtime, spotted courtside at the Minnesota Timberwolves v LA Clippers NBA game. But what were the Patriots doing at the Staples Centre? Apparently Gronkowski and co. are based near San Diego before they take on the Chargers and had the day off.

When Clippers coach Doc Rivers invited the Patriots to meet the team in the lockeroom after the game, pop star and Clippers mate Justin Bieber, was also on hand to pose with players. Nothing has hurt the cred of The Gronk more than this moment. Prepare to cringe.

FITZPATRICK’S SON IS A GENIUS

Well, maybe not a genius, but Brady Fitzpatrick, son of Ryan, quarterback of the Houston Texans, is still a clever jelly bean. At his dad’s behest Brady impressed the media corp with some excellent mathematics after the Texans smashed the Titans. Fitzpatrick is a Harvard graduate though, so it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that his offspring are a gifted bunch.

WATT GETS ANOTHER TOUCHDOWN

Still on the Texans, and their defensive behemoth J.J. Watt was once again on the receiving end of a touchdown throw, this time connecting with one of Ryan Fitzpatrick’s six touchdown passes in the Tennessee game. And wasn’t it just another fine effort from the big man? Brilliant catch.

RAMS ESCAPE PUNISHMENT FOR PROTEST

The St. Louis Rams say the team and the NFL will not discipline five players who stood with their hands raised in a show of solidarity with Ferguson protesters before their game against Oakland. Rams coach Jeff Fisher said he plans to talk with the players, but those conversations will remain confidential.

Jared Cook, Kenny Britt, Chris Givens, Stedman Bailey and Tavon Austin made the “Hands up. Don’t Shoot!” gesture protesters in Ferguson — a suburb of St. Louis — have been using since a grand jury did not indict police officer Darren Wilson over the Aug. 9 shooting of Michael Brown, who was black. Some witnesses said Brown had his hands up before being shot by officer Wilson.

THANKSGIVING FOOTBALL FEAST

Week 13 coincided with annual Thanksgiving celebrations, and the football on offer was top notch. If you missed any of the action you can catch up with our NFL Wrap.

COOL CATCH, TORREY

So it wasn’t quite at Odell Beckham Jnr’s level, but this take by Baltimore’s firecracker wide receiver Torrey Smith was still a class above the rest.

Fingertips contact on the run, and dipping, to catch the ball and then ensure he didn’t let the ball hit the ground as he fell was simply poetry in motion.

RAY RICE’S WIFE BREAKS SILENCE

The now-wife of former Ravens running back Ray Rice has had a tell-all interview about the shocking events that led to Rice being suspended and becoming the face of domestic violence issues in the NFL. Watch the Today Show interview in the player below.

FANTASY WATCH

Dan Herron — The guy has been called on to step up in Ahmad Bradshaw’s absence and with Trent Richardson just unable to produce the same numbers as Bradshaw, Herron has been called on to pick up the slack.

Kenny Stills — In the last three games Stills has been good for 40 points, as Drew Brees is forced to look for targets other than the heavily covered Jimmy Graham. With 100 yards in the last two weeks, the wide receiver is in form at a crucial point of the season, and even better, he’s scoring touchdowns. Get involved.

Ryan Fitzpatrick — Coming off his six touchdown throws, and with an ever-present J.J. Watt always willing to guest star on offense, the Texans are playing confident football. If they can keep this up, Fitzpatrick could be good for some easy fantasy points in the next week or two. It’s a little risky, but still less risky than picking up Johnny Football.

Minnesota Vikings D — The Jets are a fragile team right now. Unable to secure the football, against the Dolphins they barely let quarterback Geno Smith throw the ball — and still lost. The Vikings scored excess of 20 points after they produced four sacks, one interception and two sacks against the Panthers this week. So if they can do that against Cam Newton, imagine what they’ll do to Geno.

VINCE LOMBARDI QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Eli Manning #10 of the New York Giants and Blake Bortles #5 of the Jacksonville Jaguars shake hands following their game.

This week’s quote goes out to the Jacksonville Jaguars who notched up just their second win of the season. They haven’t been easybeats, they’ve certainly tried and have had flashes of brilliance, however the results have not panned out. Against the much more fancied, very talented New York Giants outfit, the Jags kept on keeping on, focusing on the little battles and winning out overall in the end. They definitely got to Eli Manning, the Giants QB having a shocker, fumbles galore and copped four sacks.

“You never win a game unless you beat the guy in front of you. The score on the board doesn’t mean a thing. That’s for the fans. You’ve got to win the war with the man in front of you. You’ve got to get your man.”
