NFL Blitz: Katy Perry’s crazy Super Bowl halftime show plans, Odell Beckham Jnr memes, No ‘free hugs’ for Manziel
POP star Katy Perry reveals her Super Bowl half-time entertainment plans. It’s going to get weird. Check out what else you might’ve missed in week 12 of the NFL.
CHECK out what you might’ve missed in week 12 of the NFL.
KATY PERRY TO STAR IN SUPER BOWL
It is decided. Pop music icon Katy Perry will be the half-time entertainment for Super Bowl XLIX, the news confirmed on Twitter of course.
3 AMA'S & SUPER BOWL?! Not long ago I was playing guitar on the streets of Santa Barbara for maybe 20 bucks a day & an avocado. Wow, life!

To get NFL fans pumped for what’s to come, Perry provided a video hinting at what might be on the cards, come February. Edible glitter, drum solos, flame-breathing sharks, kittens and a lot of fuchsia. Fuchsia. Everywhere.
EAGLE EYE
Ever wondered what a packed NFL stadium looks like before a game? Well Challenger the bald eagle is here to help. The bird had a GoPro strapped to it’s back before the Bengals vs. Texans game as it flew onto the ground to it’s handler. What a view.
AUSSIES IN ACTION
With Australia’s only active NFL player Brad Wing on the bye with the Pittsburgh Steelers, there wasn’t a whole lot of action to report this week. Wing spent the downtime hanging out with his young son, Bentley and some buddies at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Meanwhile, injured Seattle Seahawk and Brisbane lad, Jesse Williams, took a ride over the University of Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium in the Tuscaloosa Police chopper. His first NFL game is still yet to happen.

ODELL CATCH GETS MEME-IFIED LIKE THERE’S NO TOMORROW
As we said yesterday, Odell Beckham Jnr’s touchdown take was possibly the best catch in NFL history, and the internet responded the way you’d expect. With memes. Lots of them. There are heaps out there, but these were our favourite. Enjoy.

And the man himself had a say in the matter too. A bit of a return shoutout after LeBron James praised the receiver’s efforts.

JAY Z MEETS JERRY
Two super-rich guys on the sidelines of the Cowboys vs. Giants hit-out drew a bit of attention before the game. Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones had words with hip-hop superstar Jay Z. It’s unclear if Jay Z was recruiting Jones to feature on an upcoming track, or if they were just sharing their admiration for Roc Nation Sports’ newest signing, Dallas receiver Dez Bryant.

AARON RODGERS – EXPERT TROLL?
After Green Bay rolled Minnesota in week 12, their star quarterback downed a bottle of grape soda in the press conference, leading some to believe he was teasing the purple-clad Vikes.

Yes, the Packers are crushing it, but this was totally uncalled for, Aaron.
Some reports have since come out that he was actually just fulfilling a well-known post-game ritual that includes eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with the grape soda. But it’s more fun to think of the top-rated quarterback as a bit mischievous right?
RICHARD SHERMAN MOCKS NFL RULES
Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman sensationally called out the NFL’s crazy policies in a hilarious press conference after training, featuring a cardboard cutout of teammate Doug Baldwin.
Sherman defended Marshawn Lynch who was heavily fined for not fulfilling his media commitments, and also hit out at the recent ban on players wearing the NFL’s rival headphones sponsor, Beats, on game days. Check out the whole thing in all it’s sarcastic glory.
JOHNNY DOESN’T “HUG IT OUT”
Cleveland’s back-up quarterback Johnny Manziel and his entourage reportedly got in a tussle with a fan who was attempting to hug the NFL rookie. Police reports described the incident as a “riot”, involving 20 people and two security guards in the lobby of luxury apartments. Here’s some advice for Manziel’s entourage, when the opportunity presents itself, just hug it out.
DOLPHINS SHOW FOOTBALL FLAIR
Miami kicker Caleb Sturgis pulled out all the stops to give his team a shot against the much more fancied Denver Broncos. Where did he get his inspiration from though? The beautiful game. Needing an on-side kick late in the game Sturgis attempted a ‘rabona’ kick off the tee to fool the Broncos special teams. So it didn’t work. But he gets points for trying.
THE NEW YORKER TAKES ON WASHINGTON
On the weekend infamous magazine The New Yorker took on the contentious issue of renaming the Washington ‘Redskins’ with scathing cover art. Bruce McCall, the man who created the painting, aimed to restart the debate about whether the name should stay or go. “In my cover, I’ve brought the cultural arrogance of one side back to the sixteen-hundreds and the first Thanksgiving dinner, just to see what would happen,” McCall said. The timing of the piece couldn’t have been better either, just a week out from Thanksgiving.

FANTASY WATCH
LeGarrette Blount — It’s a risky one in a New England offence bolstered by seven healthy runnings backs ready to go, each starring for the Patriots at various stages of the season. But Blount looked right at home back alongside Tom Brady, and as Shane Vereen gets fewer touches and Jonas Gray works on earning back trust from Bill Belichick, Blount’s your guy.
Ryan Tannehill — Yes Miami don’t have that many offensive weapons, but Tannehill has matured as a quarterback in Florida and is looking the goods week after week. If you need a quarterback, give the Texan a run.
Josh Gordon — He’s back, baby. If the chumps in your league still haven’t snapped him up, now’s the time. Gordon runs routes like a seasoned pro, giving Brian Hoyer a reliable target in an offence that has lacked some wide receiver pizzazz in his absence. In Gordon’s first week back after serving a suspension for failing a drugs test, he pulled in eight passes for 120-yards. Quality.
Isaiah Crowell — Still on the waivers in plenty of leagues, he steamrolled the Falcons defence this week with two touchdowns and 88 yards, so he’s worth a look. With Ben Tate no longer in the frame Crowell is the main man for rushing yards in Cleveland right now.
St Louis Rams D – Why? Because the Rams face Oakland this week. Don’t be fooled, the Raiders still have a very shaky offense.
VINCE LOMBARDI QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“The real glory is being knocked to your knees and then coming back. That’s real glory.”
This one is for Eric Berry. He has been ruled out of the rest of the season by Kansas City, and is reportedly seeking treatment for lymphoma. The unfortunate news came after his team’s loss to Oakland, the safety complaining of chest pains, which prompted team doctors to investigate. He is set to undergo further testing before a treatment is decided upon. But Berry is in good spirits, and confident of coming back stronger than ever. Our thoughts are with him.
“I have great confidence in the doctors and the plan they are going to put in place for me to win this fight,” he said in a statement.
“I am so thankful and appreciative of being a part of this franchise and playing in front of the best fans in the NFL. I will be back!”
