GREEN AND GOLD ZONE

With last week’s results, the season is officially over for Australians in the NFL.

Pittsburgh’s Brad Wing has been enjoyed his off-season though. The Melbournian punter was snapped at the Prime Downtown nightclub in Lafayette Louisiana catching up and partying with his former college teammates. Wing and his crew of Louisiana State University alumni included New York Giants stand-out rookie, Odell Beckham Jnr.

DETROIT FEEL FOR DALLAS

After Dallas lost to Green Bay at Lambeau Field, with a crucial Dez Bryant catch being overturned and ruled incomplete, the social media account of the Detroit Lions took the opportunity to tell sad Cowboys fans that they’re not alone. The Lions of course were hard done by last week with an interference flag overturned, but in the tweet they provided a link to a Detroit touchdown against Chicago in 2010, which was the first overturned completion using the rule that robbed Bryant of a huge playoffs moment against the Packers.

The NFL Vice President of Officiating Dean Blandino later provided an explanation on Twitter of the rule which had the whole football community up in arms.

Some big names were siding with Dallas on the debate too.

Most Detroit Lions players were not showing much sympathy though.

So what do you think? Was it a catch? Or was it incomplete?

INCREDELMAN THROWS TD

Most people either love or hate New England coach Bill Belichick. But when he called this play, few could debate his genius anymore. Chasing the game in the third quarter the Patriots pulled off a superbly audacious play that involved their wide receiver Julian Edelman throwing a touchdown pass to Danny Amendola. Watch the magic unfold below.

AUSSIE AT THE SUPER BOWL

So before you get too excited, it’s not player. But Armand de Saint-Salvy is every bit an Aussie, and he will indeed be at the Super Bowl, thanks to him and his ad ‘Manchild’ becoming a finalist in the Doritos ‘Crash The Super Bowl’ competition. And he could stand to make $1 million if it wins the contest.

De Saint-Salvy made the hilarious ad with just $700 and a team of six people, but despite their underdog status, they want to become the first Australians to have an ad aired during the Super Bowl.

“We’re against ads made for millions of dollars with hundreds of people involved in production,” de Saint-Salvy said.

“But we’re hoping to get the country behind us and help the Aussie team get over the line.”

Watch the ad ‘Manchild’ in the player below, and if you really dig it, then vote for it here.

COWBOYS MEGA FAN CHRIS CHRISTIE IS MAD

Last week we learnt that New Jersey Governer Chris Christie is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. when he was spotted hugging Cowboys owner Jerry Jones after they beat Detroit. But Dallas weren’t so lucky this time around. And when THAT Dez Bryant catch was overturned, Christie was one mad, mad man.

REX HEADED TO BUFFALO

Amongst all the playoffs excitement, Buffalo not so quietly reached an agreement with former Jets coach Rex Ryan. Ryan accepted the Bills’ offer after two days of discussions.

He got a warm welcome in Buffalo too. Warm pizza.

LENNY AND KATY SHOW

Everyone is getting pretty excited about Katy Perry leading the Super Bowl halftime show, but during the Ravens/Patriots game it was announced that Perry will be joined on stage by rock star Lenny Kravitz during the performance.

ROMO MEMES SWEEP INTERNET

Cowboys QB Tony Romo is one of the most polarising figures in the NFL. However when Romo was caught on camera in an awkward position, watching the play on the ground after being hit, the keyboard warriors on the internet had a field day meme-ifying him.

Here’s some of our favourites.

RODGERS LOOKALIKE MAKING BANK

Aaron Rodgers has a British lookalike named Tom Wrigglesworth, and he is cashing in on this fortunate genetic coincidence, by starring in a new ad for State Farm. That is all.

VINCE LOMBARDI QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Having the capacity to lead is not enough. The leader must be willing to use it.”

This one goes out to Tom Brady. The Patriots quarterback and the 199th overall pick in the 2000 draft, became the new record holder of the most post season touchdown passes in the NFL. In the win over Baltimore he surpassed his childhood hero, Joe Montana with his 46th touchdown throw.
