Meet the new WAGs of the NFL
SUPER model Gisele Bündchen’s reign as the First Lady of Football is nearing its end. Introducing the new breed of wives and girlfriends bidding to inherit the crown.
NEW England Patriots quarterback/fashion plate Tom Brady is nearing the end of a Hall of Fame-calibre career, which means Gisele Bündchen’s reign as the First Lady of Football is also winding down.
The power couple is even preparing to leave the limelight by putting their $40 million mansion in star-studded Los Angeles up for sale — don’t worry, Dr. Dre is interested — to repair to move to Brookline, Massacheusetts.
MORE: The Aussie NFL Draft hopefuls
Once she retires Gisele will go back to being a plain old world-famous supermodel.
Fortunately for shutterbugs, today’s NFL Draft offers a bumper crop of potential star rookie quarterbacks with photogenic girlfriends in line to inherit the title. From Katherine Webb to headline-mandatory Johnny Manziel’s date of the moment, here is a look at the candidates.
KATHERINE WEBB
Quarterback: Fiancee of A.J. McCarron. Two-time national title winner at Alabama is projected to go in the second round.
Exposure: High. Camera favourite ever since Musberger infamously intoned, “You quarterbacks get all the good-looking women,” when Webb was spotted by the TV crew in the stands during the 2013 BCS Championship game.
Career highlight: Contestant on “Splash,” ABC’s incredibly well-conceived celebrity diving show.
LINDSEY DUKE
Quarterback: Girlfriend of Blake Bortles, big-armed passer out of Central Florida who is pegged as a mid-first-round pick out of the green room at Radio City.
Exposure: Medium. Bortles has said Duke is “way more famous than I am”. Central Florida coach George O’Leary expertly said she was deserving of “six million Googles”. And NFL bigwigs were anxious to meet her.
Career highlight: College student modelled for the Orlando entertainment magazine Axis and the more widely viewed publication known as Instagram.
KACIE MCDONNELL
Quarterback: Girlfriend of Aaron Murray, a four-year starter at Georgia who is on the fringes of draft boards as a likely late-round pick.
Exposure: Modest. Previously dated Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder.
Career highlight: Reporter and anchor at Fox29 in Philadelphia. (Conflict of interest if the Eagles draft Murray?)
KYNDAL KYAIRE
Quarterback: Has been spotted on the town (of Dallas) with Johnny “Football” Manziel, the most talked-about prospect in today’s first round.
Exposure: Low. Unless she’s spied by ESPN cameras at the Draft, in which case, very high.
Career highlight: Has posed for Maxim.
