WWE stars The New Day have challenged Liz Cambage and Nick Kyrgios to a wrestling match, declaring the Australian sporting stars would “get ate up”.

Speaking at a media appearance in Bondi on Monday, the NXT Tag Team champions, comprised of Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and The Big E, voluntarily called out Cambage and Kyrgios as two Australians they would like to see step in the ring.

As two of Australia’s most polarising sportspeople, Cambage and Kyrgios would arguably be very well suited to the showboating entertainment nature of WWE.

In a tongue-and-cheek exchange with news.com.au, The New Day’s Woods and Kingston discussed whether they could beat Cambage in a wrestling match.

Kingston: Liz Cambage. She’s six foot eight.

Woods: So?

Kingston: Handles. Athlete.

Woods: So? I signed up to being a wrestler knowing everyone was bigger than me. I’m fine with that. And she has no wrestling experience.

Kingston: You can’t teach height. She’d keep you at bay with that jab, sticking that jab out.

Woods: I’m going to just ankle pick.

Kingston: If she sprawls on you it’s over.

Woods: She’s not going to sprawl, I’m way faster than she is.

Asked if they would fancy their chances in a match with Kyrgios, Woods quipped: “I’d hurt him too. Bring them all!

“In their world, we are the young babes but in our realm they are. So if they want to float with the sharks, let the blood flow. They gonna get ate up.”

Cambage’s basketball career is up in the air after she parted ways with her WNBA team the Los Angeles Sparks last year, while Kyrgios is recovering from knee surgery after pulling out of the Australian Open.

Kyrgios and Kokkinakis were gifted WWE title belts with with “Special Ks” emblazoned on custom sideplates after their Australian Open doubles win last year.

So perhaps a foray into WWE isn’t out of the question.

The New Day are hoping to be back in the ring performing as a trio later this year, when the Big E fully recovers from a broken neck sustained from an ugly landing during a SmackDown last year.

They were reunited for the first time in over a year in Sydney on Monday to mark the launch of BINGE as the new streaming home of WWE in Australia, with all premium events including the Royal Rumble (January 29) and WrestleMania (April 2-3).
