MANCHESTER UNITED defender Luke Shaw has signed a new five-year deal worth a whopping A$348,000-a-week - after proving to Jose Mourinho he is the top class left-back he had been searching for.

The England full-back, 23, has been in resurgent form this campaign after winning his place back under Mourinho and the United boss has responded by tying him down long-term at Old Trafford.

Shaw is now set to pocket around £50million in the incredible deal as he proves himself as a key cog in the new-look United.

Mourinho said: “Luke fully deserves this contract. He understood his development process, he has worked really hard at every level and he always believes in himself which is a great attribute to have.

”Luke is still young and is improving all the time and he must feel very proud of himself.

“I am delighted that we are keeping such a talented young English player with a bright future ahead of him.“

Shaw said: “Since I came to United, it’s been a whirlwind four years that have passed so quickly.

“I am very proud to sign my new contract and continue my stay at this great club.

“I want to thank everybody that has stood by me and shown me huge support - the management, my team-mates and the fans.

“I want to let everyone know that I will give everything I have to repay them and deliver success over the years to come.

“I’m still very young with a lot more to learn and I can’t wait to continue my progress under Jose Mourinho.”

The signing of the contract marks an incredible turnaround for Shaw - who was publicly slated by Mourinho just last season.

The ex-Southampton star was blasted over his fitness and form having suffered an horrific injury in 2015 against PSV Eindhoven.

But he has become a key player this season, earning an England recall and United moved swiftly to get his future wrapped up, with talks starting over the weekend.

The new deal came with Mourinho’s blessing after assessing his left-back options in the summer.

In a similar move to Shaw - who joined United in 2014 - another former outcast, Anthony Martial, is being tipped to pen a new deal.

SunSport revealed earlier this season how United were putting a lucrative new package together in an attempt to keep the forward at Old Trafford.

After falling out of favour under Mourinho, fan-favourite Martial is now set to rake in $238,000-a-week if he agrees to the deal.
