Tiger Woods said playing with his son Charlie was as much fun as he’s had on a golf course

They didn’t win, or even come second but Tiger Woods said playing with his son Charlie was as enjoyable as golf could get.

Tiger Woods wouldn’t compare it to any of his 15 majors but said he hadn’t had as much fun on a golf course for a long time as he did finishing seventh with his 11-year-old so Charlie at the PNC Championship.

“I don’t think words can describe it,” Woods said after finishing the event with his son, both wearing the golfing great’s famous Sunday red shirt, in Florida.

“Just the fact that we were able to have this experience together, Charlie and I, it’s memories for a lifetime.”

The younger Woods was the youngest competitor in the 25-year history of the tournament which has the longest waiting list in golf.

Charlie’s swing, and demeanour, was compared to his father’s throughout the event and plenty have predicted a golfing future for the son of a gun.

During his team’s closing 10-under-par 62, Charlie even rolled in a birdie at the par-four 10th and then unleashed a vintage low-uppercut Tiger fist pump that the golf world has seen countless times before.

Team Woods, finished seventh among the 20-team field of major champions, five shots back of world No.3 Justin Thomas and his father at the team‘s exhibition event in Florida.

“He‘s not going to appreciate this at 11 years old. I didn’t when I was with my dad,” Tiger, who famously hugged his father on the side of the 18th green at Augusta when he won the first of his five Masters titles in 1997.

“As the years go by, you start appreciating it more.”

Woods had managed to shield his son from the media throughout the event, hosted by Australian legend Greg Norman who, playing with his son Greg Jr, finished in a share of ninth at 18-under par.

It was all about ensuring Charlie enjoyed the experience according to Woods who said there was “no doubt” it was the most fun he’d had on a golf course all year.

He said the idea was to enjoy the experience together “and we did that.”

“I‘m proud of how he handled everything,” Woods said.

“It was incredibly special for us to have the opportunity to spend the quality time we had. It’s memories we’ll have for our entire lives.”
