Rory McIlroy wins PGA Tour's BMW Championship

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Rory McIlroy has won a second consecutive US PGA Tour playoff event, continuing his recent domination of golf with a two-shot win.

RORY McIlroy has won a second consecutive US PGA Tour playoff event, continuing his recent domination of golf with a two-shot win in Indianapolis.

World No.1 McIlroy has now won three of his last four events played, including the US PGA Championship, taking his US tour tally to six wins all before his 24th birthday.

He is the first player to win consecutive US tour starts since Tiger Woods did it in 2009.

McIlroy carded a five-under 67 on the Crooked Stick course on the final day to finish at 20-under-par, winning from England's Lee Westwood (69) and American Phil Mickelson (70) who tied second at 18-under.

Tiger Woods (68) and Robert Garrigus (69) were tied fourth a shot further back while Adam Scott (70) was the best of the Australians four shots off the pace in a tie for sixth.

McIlroy was flawless until the inconsequential final hole, knocking in six birdies over the first 16 holes to put a further stamp on his recent dominance.

A final hole bogey did little to take the gloss off an amazing stretch of golf.

"I'm just on a great run at the minute and trying to keep that going for as long as possible," McIlroy said.

"I'm playing well, I'm confident, and it's just nice to have these runs."

Australia's big hope Scott started the day two off the lead but couldn't get off the rollercoaster of birdies and bogeys early in his round, failing to build any momentum.

However his strong result well and truly cemented his place in the 30-man field for the fourth and final playoff event, the Tour Championship in Atlanta in two weeks time.

"I didn't play very well today," Scott said.

"I made a lot of birdies which was nice but I made the bogeys to go with it so made it tough to contend.

"I wasn't quite on like I have been the last two weeks."

Fellow Australian John Senden might be sending Kyle Stanley and reigning FedEx Cup champion Bill Haas early Christmas presents after they saved him from playoff elimination.

After a poor third round Senden produced a front nine birdie blitz to get back inside the qualification mark for the Tour Championship but struggled on the back nine to seemingly forfeit his ticket to Atlanta.

Needing roughly a top 38 finish to be guaranteed of moving on, Senden opened with a five-under 31 to rocket back into the mix, but closed with a six-over 42 back nine for a 73.

Left in a tie for 56th and relying heavily on others Senden believed his season was over but Haas bogeyed four of his last five holes to fall behind the Australian on the points list.

Stanley could've stolen Senden's spot in Atlanta with a birdie on any of his final three holes but he parred 16 and 17 before making bogey on the last.

Greg Chalmers produced an impressive six-under 66 in the final round to finish at 10-under par in a tie for 16th but fell short of moving on to his first Tour Championship.

Geoff Ogilvy (-7) and Marc Leishman (+4) also ended their playoff runs.
