Patrick Reed nails hole-in-one on just his second hole at the LIV Adelaide event

SEE THE VIDEO: A party hole hole-in-one is the most hoped for shot at a golf tournament and it took just two holes to happen in Adelaide.

Adelaide Crowd erupts after hole in one

It only took 15 minutes for Adelaide to erupt again with “craziness and chaos” as Masters champion Patrick Reed nailed a hole-in-one at the Watering Hole to cue mayhem on the opening day of the LIV event.

Two years after Chase Koepka sent the fans at the par three 12th hole into delirium, with the scenes going viral, Reed matched the feat playing just his second hole of the day.

After amping up the already-boisterous crowd before his eight- iron to the flag 151m away, Reed’s ball hit the green short of the cup, bounced twice before rolling in and sending the crowd at the “Party Hole” into a frenzy.

The roar was so loud it could be heard around the entire course as plastic cups and their contents reigned down on Reed’s group, which included his Four Aces teammates Harold Varner III and Thomas Pieters, forcing a post-shot clean-up.

“I got the party started early,” Reed said, less enthused about the rest of his opening one-over 73.

“Yeah, it was unreal. My throat still hurts from it. The crazy thing was the adrenaline afterwards. I was shaking going back to the tee and just couldn’t kind of calm down and settle into the round after that point. It’s one of those things that you don’t really expect.”

Reed said the ball was in his bag and ready to go “on the wall” joining the other five from his other holes in one.

His shot was only the sixth tee shot of the tournament at the 12th hole at The Grange Golf Club, coming exactly 15 minutes and 41 seconds in to the event which featured record crowds.

LIV officials opted to change their policy to serve water bottles without lids to avoid potential calamity should a hole-in-one be made after Australian Lucas Herbert’s caddie was hit by an errant bottle, thrown in celebration, in 2024.

But Reed was happy to walk through the shower.

“I know the caddies and the guys I was playing with, as they were walking off the green, they were just complaining about how soaked they were. I didn’t feel anything. I couldn’t feel anything at that point,” he said.

“I saw cups and beers and liquid flying everywhere. I guarantee you -- my golf bag looked a little sticky when I was walking off the golf course.

“That’s what we kind of expected. If somebody makes a hole-in-one on a hole like that, you expect just craziness and chaos, and it was. “The great thing, I felt like everyone did it the right way. No one got hurt, which is good. You just never know with stuff flying around out there.

“I smell like a lot of things, I was all over the place today.”

It was the ninth hole-in-one in LIV history, but that’s a number which could grow given all LIV players want to mirror Reed’s feat in Adelaide.

Aussie star Marc Leishman said trying to get the “big one” at the Watering Hole demanded something different.

“I think it’s one of the few times that you actually no matter where the pin is you’re aiming straight at it because yes, you want to try and make that one,” he said.

“I think normally you’re thinking about consequences, you’re thinking, if I miss this a little right, it’s pretty screwed over there, I’d better aim a bit left of the pin just to give myself a bit more wiggle room, a bit more margin for error.

“That one for me, I’m aiming straight at it every time. It’s just fun. I think it’s really cool, yeah, trying to get that big roar.”
