Min Woo Lee is preparing for the “biggest day of my life” in the final group in the final round at The Players Championship eyeing off a $7 million pay day.

The Aussie young gun will have to bridge a two-shot gap on world No.2 Scottie Scheffler after giving up a share of the lead with a final round bogey in an otherwise spectacular third round effort at TPC Sawgrass.

Scheffler is on 14-under, Lee 12-under with another Australian, Cameron Davis, also in the hunt after a birdie on his final hole left him on outright third at 10-under.

Lee, the brother of two-time major champion Minjee, was feeding off chants of “Woo” from the packed galleries in Florida and said he loves “entertaining them” showing no signs of nerves ahead of the final round showdown.

Having been equal leader for much of the third round, after holing out from the fairway for eagle on his opening hole, the 24-year-0ld is confident he can replicate his six-under round of 66 and emulate the feats of fellow Aussie Cameron Smith who won the event last year.

“It‘s really special to get that chant. I had that same thing at Aussie PGA last year ... you can‘t ask for anything more,” Lee, from WA, said.

“I love playing in front of a crowd, and I love entertaining them. So I hope they had a good show today and hopefully I can do it again tomorrow.

“Yeah, tomorrow could be the biggest day of my life, but I‘m going to go out there and have fun again. It‘s been the motto for the last three months. Not taking it too seriously.

“ I like to have fun and interact with the fans when I can. Unlike others, you know, they‘re very serious.

“So, yeah, I‘m just out here enjoying my time, and like I said, I just crept into this tournament and making the most of it and soaking it all in.”

Lee, a two-time winner on the European Tour, is playing the event, considered by most to be the “fifth major” for the first time but is undaunted despite conceding the course is “scary”.

But talking like a player not feeling any pressure, Lee said having fun would be the key to his final round and pursuit of the biggest cheque of his career.

“There‘s a lot of times where people have faltered and you don‘t want to be one of those,” he said

“But as long as you can control your emotions and go out there and have fun, which I did, it was fun playing really good golf.

“It‘s obviously going to be a challenge. Scottie‘s playing really good, but I‘m just going to go out there and have fun and hit the best I can. It‘s going to be a challenge, but I’m going to have fun.”
