Golf monster breaks lid on long-running feud with rival superstar
A bitter feud between two of the biggest star’s on the course that has simmered away has crossed the line according to one man involved.
For a feud that began over slow play, the Bryson DeChambeau-Brooks Koepka rivalry sure has a long shelf life.
Since it seemingly began in January of 2019, when Koepka lamented DeChambeau’s meticulous pace on the golf course, the two American golfers have traded barbs back and forth. While DeChambeau mostly finds Koepka’s digs at him to be funny, he admitted there is a line but has held off from confronting Koepka about it.

“There are times where it’s like, ‘O.K., dude, it’s too far,’” DeChambeau told Sports Illustrated. “I’ve gone up to him a couple of times and tried to talk to him. And there have been times where, you know, I was gonna go talk to him when he said something, and I’m just like, ‘You know, it’s not even worth it. It’s not even worth my time to try and create something.’ ”
DeChambeau has often let his play speak loudest, which was on full display in September as he charged to his first major victory at the US Open at Winged Foot. But the 27-year-old’s rise has rankled some people along the way, and not just Koepka. DeChambeau has bulked up and now drives booming tee shots to tear up courses. He has also leaned into the math and science behind golf to help his game
Still, he is not immune to the frustrations of the game. He has made headlines for getting in arguments with officials and also lashed out at a cameraman in July for following him too closely on a rough hole.
In the lengthy SI profile, DeChambeau called the outbursts “my perfectionism coming out.”
“It’s so stupid!” he said in the story. “It’s so dumb. And I hate myself for it. I criticise myself for it all night. Sometimes I don’t sleep over it, because it’s like, ‘Why did I do that? That was so dumb.’ ”
Koepka used that outburst with the cameraman as a chance to tweak DeChambeau, sending out a Kenny Powers GIF in which the fictional baseball player confronted steroid allegations by attacking a cameraman.
Earlier in 2020, DeChambeau had talked about his abs and said Koepka didn’t have any showing in his ESPN “Body Issue” pictures. Koepka responded by tweeting out a picture of his four major championship trophies with the caption, “You were right @b_dechambeau I am 2 short of a 6 pack!”
