Adam Scott hopes to rediscover that winning feeling in Bermuda

Adam Scott is keen to play well in Bermuda this week to ensure he’s in good form for the Australian Open and the Australian PGA.

Searching for form and a “positive vibe” ahead of his upcoming Australian assault, Adam Scott is hoping to rekindle his love affair with an island layout that “feels like home”.

Scott is competing in this week’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship, a PGA Tour event at the Port Royal Golf Course.

It was there in 2013 where Queenslander Scott won the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, where the four winners from that year’s majors played against each other in a two-round event.

Scott, who won the 2013 Masters, finished two shots ahead of that year’s US Open champion, Justin Rose.

“I had a great time and a good experience on this golf course for a couple of days 10 years ago,” Scott said.

“Whenever you’re coming back to a place where you’ve had good results, there’s a positive vibe, that’s for sure.

“The course is very much what I remember it. The grass is similar to home in Queensland … and with the wind blowing, I think that feels like home a bit as well.

“I certainly enjoy playing in this kind of resort-style, tropical weather that feels a bit more like home to me.”

It’s a timely “home” feeling ahead of his return Down Under to contest the November 23-26 Australian PGA at Royal Queensland and the following week’s Australian Open in Sydney.

“After a fairly quiet period at the back end of the year, it’s a good time to get going again, and not only try to play well this week but get ready to be going in Australia,” Scott said.

“And of course like every time I play, I’m here to try and win the golf tournament.

“I’ve been. working at a lot of different things in my game and I’m trying to put it all together here this week.”

The 43-year-old former world No.1 – whose most recent win was in February 2020 at the Genesis Invitational – has been unhappy with his iron play this year.

“I was about 18th in strokes gained driving (on the PGA), so I didn’t feel too bad

about that, but my iron play is standout terrible this year,” he said.

“I’ve been addressing that. I’ve made some equipment changes and testing some of that stuff still this week.

“I’m not going to get results being on the couch at home. It would be nice to get a result going on the PGA Tour before next season starts and try to improve my standings and get a position in a couple of the signature events.”

Now No.45 in the world, Scott is the second-highest ranked player in the Bermuda field behind American Lucas Glover (31).

“At many different times in my career I’ve come to events as the favourite or world No.1 or in good form and with expectation being high,” Scott said.

“That’s the environment I want to be in. If that’s the case this week, I feel like I am the best player here and that might help me perform a little better.”
