Stunning footage has emerged of Sam Kerr rubbishing a commentator, delivering her incredible World Cup goal mere seconds after he said she couldn’t do it.

In the clip, the star skipper receives the ball and begins rocketing down the pitch as the lone Matilda surrounded by three Lionesses.

A pundit can be heard running live commentary, and he seems to doubt Kerr can hold her own.

“Here’s Sam Kerr. She’s going to need some support,” he says.

But, mere seconds later, Kerr doesn’t even break from the pack as she launches the ball across the pitch and into the net.

“Kerr with a shot. Oh, I say that’s incredible!” the commentator roars as the crowd erupted in celebration.

The tense moment, delivered in the middle of the second half, buoyed Australia with the hopes of a win before they came crashing down.

A stunning image showed the view from the Lionesses’ net just before the equaliser was delivered. In the picture, Kerr is seen suspended in mid-air, her eyes on the prize as the ball flies into the back of the net.

Matildas fans went wild for Kerr’s sensational performance, with “WHAT A GOAL” trending on X (formerly Twitter) for the rest of the night.

“Best goal of the tournament,” one person wrote.

“Sam Kerr is the GOAT of Women football. WHAT A GOAL,” another celebrated.

“Sam Kerr’s goal was a rocket. Usually I feel like some of the ‘screamers’ that some of the girls and guys score aren’t actually screamers, but my god Kerr smacked it,” added a third.

Cathy Freeman, who spoke to the Matildas before the World Cup, posted on social media: “So incredibly proud of our girls! You gave it everything and inspired an entire nation!

“Hold your head up high and here’s to the future!”

CODE Sports’ Lachlan McKirdy tweeted: “What a run it was. Wasn’t to be tonight but this is a turning point. An entire nation is proud.”

The Daily Telegraph’s Jamie Pandaram said: “Thank you @TheMatildas.

“That was quite some journey, you had us feeling all of it, united the country and changed women’s sport forever.”
