Socceroos unveil their World Cup mascot, Maloo, designed by 11-year-old twins Tom and Harrison
MEET Maloo, the Socceroos’ new mascot who will be there in Brazil as Ange Postecoglou’s men aim to hop their way into history.
THE Socceroos mascot for the World Cup will be unveiled at Sunday’s fan day in Gosford, where thousands are expected at Central Coast Stadium to see the team in training.
The kangaroo-themed mascot, Maloo, was designed by 11-year-old Brisbane twins Tom
and Harrison Searle, who won an Australia-wide competition for the honour.
“Harrison and I thought it would be good to base our design on the shape of a kangaroo, especially because it’s for the Socceroos,” said Tom.
The judging panel of Tim Cahill, coach Ange Postecoglou, FFA boss David Gallop and Luke Fitzgerald from Cenovis, the official vitamin sponsor of the Socceroos, went through thousands of entries from all over Australia.
Cahill, who arrived in Sydney from New York on Saturday, congratulated the winners.
Fans will get numerous chances to see the mascot before the Socceroos leave for Brazil, including next weekend’s fan day at Jubilee Oval in Kogarah. It will also be on show when the Socceroos play South Africa in their farewell match on May 26 at ANZ Stadium.
