BRAZIL reached a World Cup semifinal against Germany with a tense 2-1 defeat of Colombia in Fortaleza.

Captain Thiago Silva got free at the back post to bundle home a corner in the seventh minute and David Luiz doubled the lead after 69 minutes, thundering home a brilliant long range freekick.

James Rodriguez pulled a goal back with a penalty on 78 minutes to go to six for the tournament.

Thiago Silva will miss the semifinal after picking up a yellow card.
