ENGLAND’S players escaped without injury in today’s World Cup match against Italy, but the same cannot be said for the team’s unfortunate physio Gary Lewin.
Lewin embarrassingly dislocated his ankle while celebrating England’s goal to Daniel Sturridge in the second half.
The incident caused a stoppage in play before he was eventually stretchered from the field.
Making matters worse for Lewin was the fact England went on to lose 2-1 to Italy.

The team’s official Twitter feed swiftly confirming the severity of the injury.
“England physio Gary Lewin was injured during celebrations for england’s goal,” the post said. “He has dislocated his ankle. Get well soon Gary #3Lions.”
England manager Roy Hodgson said Lewin landed awkwardly on a water bottle after leaping in the air to celebrate.
Lewin is now heading back to England.
