Western United coach John Aloisi wants a Tasmanian team to join the A-League

Despite Western United regarding Tasmania as its ‘home’, coach John Aloisi would like a team from the Apple Isle to join the A-League.

Western United coach John Aloisi has called for a Tasmanian team to join the A-League despite regarding the Apple Isle as his own club’s “home”.

The in-form United meet Perth in Launceston on Sunday, and while it’s officially the Glory’s home match, Aloisi said the game was anything but an away fixture for his team.

“We’re looing forward to going to Tasmania because it’s a home away from home,” said Aloisi, whose United side will play two home matches in Launceston this season after also playing two home games there last season.

“Tasmania is our home.”

However, that didn’t stop Aloisi declaring that Tasmania should have its own A-League team.

“Sometimes it gets forgotten about that there are people who love the game down there,” he said.

“There is talent there and hopefully the league grows enough that Tasmania can have a team there.

“I’d like to see a team in every state. That would help the game in general.”

Aloisi said confidence was high in United’s camp but that it would be wrong to under-estimate the Glory.

“They’re a difficult team to play against. They’ve got some really good players (and) they’ve got some good experience,” he said.

“It’s not going to be an easy game, we know that.

“(Perth striker) Bruno Fornaroli is one that we definitely have to keep an eye on. We know how good he is.”
