Western Sydney’s Dylan Scicluna suffers season-ending knee injury
Western Sydney Wanderers have suffered a blow with the loss of an in-form midfielder for the rest of the A-League season.
Western Sydney midfielder Dylan Scicluna will miss the rest of the A-League season after suffering a serious knee injury in the Wanderers’ 3-2 win over Adelaide United.
Scans have revealed that the in-form Scicluna tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in the closing stages of last Friday night’s clash at Coopers Stadium.
Wanderers coach Alen Stajcic feared the worst immediately after the match.
“Some of their (Adelaide’s) staff were calling him a cheat, telling him to get up, but he was actually seriously injured, and he might be out for a long time,” said Stajcic, who was sent off from the bench in fiery finale to the contest.
“I was actually animated because my player was down on the ground, and I suspected an injury and people (were) crowding around him.”
In a club statement, Wanderers pledged to give their “full support” to Scicluna.
The Wanderers will chase a third successive win on Wednesday night when they host Macarthur FC in a derby at CommBank Stadium.
