Western Sydney Wanderers not satisfied with leading A-League competition
WESTERN Sydney’s class of 2015-16 is only the fifth team in A-League history to win six on the bounce but the surprise leaders aren’t getting ahead of themselves.
WESTERN Sydney’s class of 2015-16 is only the fifth team in A-League history to win six on the bounce.
But ahead of Saturday night’s mouthwatering top-of-the-table clash with Melbourne Victory at Pirtek Stadium, star forward Romeo Castelen has warned there is still plenty of improvement left in the Wanderers.
“The end of the season is the main goal, to be on top at the end,” Castelen said.
“If you see the game against Brisbane (on the weekend), it was a very tough game for us and Brisbane did a great second half, they controlled the game better than us, but still we found a way to win.
“(Victory) is a good side, everybody knows that, they are the champions from last year.
“So it’s a good test for us to see where we’re at.”
Wanderers fullback Scott Jamieson said coach Tony Popovic was keeping the team’s feet firmly on the ground despite its impressive win streak.
“It’s only December,” Jamieson said.
“We’re very realistic in terms of it being six on the trot, but come April it won’t mean anything if we haven’t made the finals or anything like that.
“So it’s about being realistic, embrace what we’ve done but also build on it.”
