Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou lauded for way he ‘thinks about football’

Ange Postecoglou has received a ringing endorsement from one his of key Tottenham signings, who believes the former Socceroos coach can enjoy quick success with Spurs as he did at Celtic.

Dutch defender Micky van de Ven, who joined Tottenham in the off-season from German club Wolfsburg, has hailed the appointment of Postecoglou, who led Scottish giants Celtic to five trophies in two seasons before being lured to the English Premier League by Spurs.

Heading into Saturday night’s away clash against Bournemouth, Spurs are unbeaten under Postecoglou in two Premier League games, including last weekend’s 2-0 win over Manchester United.

“I think how we play now, every player in the team loves the way of playing under him, the way he thinks about football,” van de Ven told talkSPORT.

“We feel each other and we know what he wants and we know what he expects from us, so we do what he wants.

“He also looks at how we think about it, so it’s not only from one way but from both ways, and I think that will help the team and the manager also to develop everyone.”

Van de Ven added it was a “possibility” that Postecoglou could emulate the “instant success” he had at Celtic with Spurs.

“He is so good for all of us. He’s quiet, but he’s straight in with what he wants,” he said of the former Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory coach.

“He is clear. Everything is clear for everyone in the dressing room and everyone in the team knows what he has to do and what he is expecting from us.”

Van de Ven also described Postecoglou as a “sweet” and “lovely”.

“I talked with (Postecoglou) and everything in the meeting went well, and I love the way of playing, so that made a really huge decision for me to go to Tottenham,” van de Ven said.
