Skipper Scott Jamieson to return to Melbourne City’s starting side

The ‘unfortunate’ Scott Jamieson is back in selection favour with Melbourne City coach Rado Vidosic for the first-placed A-League team’s battle with Brisbane Roar.

Spurned skipper Scott Jamieson has been recalled to Melbourne City’s starting side for Saturday night’s clash against Brisbane Roar at Kayo Stadium.

The emergence of exciting left-back Jordan Bos has restricted veteran Jamieson to just four starts this season.

His last start was in City’s only defeat this season, a 2-1 away loss to Sydney FC on December 10.

Since then, Jamieson has played a combined total of just 53 minutes in four matches.

However, with Bos ruled out with a concussion, City coach Rado Vidosic has called on Jamieson.

“Scotty’s coming back,” Vidosic said.

“He’s just been a little bit unfortunate with Jordy’s performances being so strong.

“Everyone at the club is excited about Jordy but to have ‘Jamo’ back, it’s a good replacement.”

Despite the loss of Bos, league leaders City – who were held to a 1-1 draw last weekend by Western Sydney Wanderers despite dominating the contest – will start as clear favourites against a Roar side hoping to avoid a third successive defeat.

“If we can create as many chances as we created against Western Sydney, if we can have 30-plus shots on goal (again), we’re probably going to win the game,” Vidosic said.

“We just need to be aware of their transition moments. They’ve got some very fast players in their front line, and they don’t hesitate to play the ball over the top,

“We just need to be relentless and dominant in their half when we have the ball and our rest defence has to be spot on so we avoid those moments where maybe they can hit us on the counter-attack.”

However, Brisbane’s speed advantage won’t be as strong following the withdrawal of the pacy Nikola Mileusnic, who has succumbed to a calf injury.

Japanese midfielder Riku Danzaki, who is set to sign for Scottish Premiership club Motherwell, has almost certainly played his last game for the Roar.

However, Austrian midfielder Marcel Canadi is set to make his Brisbane debut on Saturday night – off the bench – pending the arrival of his international clearance.

“It’s the first time I’ve been so far away from home but I’m excited and can’t wait to get started,” Canadi said.

Roar coach Warren Moon said Canadi’s versatility would prove handy.

“He has the ability to play a number of positions,” Moon said,

“We can play him higher up the park as an attacking midfielder, (and) he can play wide but also as a bit deeper so that is good for us.”

Former Western United striker Ayom Majok will debut for the Roar on Saturday night.

The 20-year-old attacker has joined Brisbane from NPL South Australia club Adelaide City on a youth development deal.
