Sam Kerr strips off in act of pure class after historic Matildas win

Sam Kerr left the Suncorp Stadium turf without a shirt on after giving one fan a moment that commentators could not believe.

Sam Kerr has delivered yet another act of pure class after stripping off her shirt as a gift for a young fan during the wild scenes of Australia’s quarter-final victory celebrations.

Suncorp Stadium was rocking as Kerr and Matildas teammates celebrated with fans following the epic penalty shootout win over France that has sent Australia through to the semi-finals of the Women’s World Cup for the first time.

Kerr triggered scenes of insanity around the stadium as she was substituted into the game in the 55th minute.

The cheering did not stop until she walked back up the players tunnel to the dressing room.

Before she left the ground, TV cameras captured the moment Kerr walked into the grandstand to give her playing shirt to a young fan.

The young spectator appeared to be absolutely gobsmacked by the gesture and the smile could not be wiped off her face as Kerr walked away back towards her teammates.

Kerr also gave the fan a hug and exchanged some words.

Optus Sport host Amy Duggan said: “Sam Kerr has given her shirt to a fan. Can you even imagine being that child?”

American soccer star Jess McDonald responded on the post-match show, saying: “Those are some of the best moments for children. When equipment is being handed over by the best players in world and there’s no one better than Sam Kerr.”

Almost everything Kerr touched turned to gold.

It was all too much after such an emotional night.

“After the game, everyone was celebrating. I just couldn’t believe it,” she said on Channel 7 after the match.

“I took a little moment by myself on the bench. We’re all so shocked. Oh my god, I can’t believe it.”

Suncorp Stadium erupted as soon as fans saw her warming up at the end of the ground — and the place exploded as she stepped onto the field.

Her first touch showed she was ready to make an immediate impact.

“I have never heard a roar like that!” David Basheer said on Seven.

Matildas star Grace Gill also said: “Goosebumps. That one gives you goosebumps”.

Sideline commentator Adam Peacock said: “This World Cup has gone up and up and up in terms of energy levels, but the noise down here and Sam Kerr since she’s gone on has lifted the joint like you would not believe.

“Everyone in the stands are out of their seats at the moment because of the lady playing for the Matildas in pink boots. It’s extraordinary.”
