Melbourne Victory’s hopes of keeping on-loan South American import Fernando Romero have been dashed, with the talented striker to return to his Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno.

Having joined the Victory in February, Romero scored two goals in 10 A-League appearances for the struggling club.

It’s understood the Victory were interested in the ongoing services of the 23-year-old marksman but could not agree to terms on either a loan extension or a transfer fee with Cerro Porteno.

The Victory have also parted ways with another on-loan attacker, with former Adelaide United, Melbourne City and Western Sydney Wanderers winger Bruce Kamau heading back to his Greek club, OFI Crete.

Kamau started in just one of his nine appearances for the Victory but failed to find the back of the net.

The Melbourne club is also set to confirm by next week the departure of former Manchester United star Nani.

The veteran Portuguese winger had signed a two-year deal when he joined the Victory last July.

However, after suffering a serious knee injury in January that forced him to miss the remainder of the club’s poor 2022-23 campaign, Nani’s Victory contract is set to be terminated.

Nani, 36, made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Victory without scoring a goal.
