Melbourne City signs former Argentina under-17 international defender
Melbourne City has added a versatile former Argentina under-17 international to its squad.
Melbourne City’s new Argentine defender German Ferreyra is thrilled with the “exciting opportunity” that awaits him in the A-League.
Ferreyra, 28, has joined City on a two-year deal after spending the past three seasons with Russian outfit Enisey Krasnoyarsk.
“I am so happy to be joining Melbourne City,” he said.
“They’re a club who have won a lot of trophies in recent times and we share the same ambition for success, so it is an exciting opportunity for me.
“I’m committed to giving my all to help the team achieve more success on the pitch.”
City’s director of football Michael Petrillo hailed the former Argentina under-17 international’s ability to play anywhere in the backline and also in the midfield.
“German’s versatility and style of play make him an exciting addition to our squad, and a player that I think the fans will really enjoy watching play,” Petrillo said.
“Being able to play across numerous positions enhances our tactical options, and his aggressive defending and attacking mindset brings an important dynamic to our team.
“He’s a physical, hardworking defender and a player that I don’t think will take long to adapt to our style of play.”
City’s first competitive match of its 2024-25 campaign is an Australia Cup round-of-32 clash against either Brisbane Roar or Perth Glory on July 31.
The Roar and the Glory meet on Tuesday night in Darwin in a Cup playoff, with the winner to host City.
