Melbourne City sign Andreas Kuen following departure of Tolgay Arslan
Melbourne City has signed an Austrian midfielder to help fill the gap left by former star Tolgay Arslan.
Melbourne City has moved to fill the void left by departed playmaker Tolgay Arslan by signing Austrian midfielder Andreas Kuen.
City officials were disappointed to lose German star Arslan in July after his memorable 2023-24 A-League campaign.
Less than a fortnight after parting ways with City for “family reasons”, Arslan joined Japanese club Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
While Kuen has been described as a “box-to-box’’ midfielder rather than a genuine “No.10”, the former Austrian youth international will still provide creativity in City’s engine room.

“I’m excited to start this new chapter of my career here at Melbourne City,” said Kuen, who has joined the Melbourne club on a two-year deal from Greek Super League outfit Atromitos.
“I’ve heard so many wonderful things about Australia and everyone here at the club has been very welcoming.
“Since joining up with the squad, it is clear we have an exciting group with many talented young players.
“I am ready to bring my experience to the team, fight for the badge, and ultimately bring home more silverware for our fans. I like to play and create for my teammates.”
City’s director of football Michael Petrillo said Kuen would be “crucial” to the club’s chances of success in the new A-League season starting in October.
“Andreas is a highly technical player who brings substantial experience to our squad,” Petrillo said.
“His ability to control the game and create opportunities will be crucial for us this campaign.
“We are delighted to have him on-board for at least the next two seasons.”
Kuen, 29, is the second player this month to leave Atromitos for the A-League after Greek striker Nikos Vergos joined Melbourne Victory on a two-year deal.
