Mary Fowler’s Champions League dream has been dashed after her club side Manchester City were knocked out by Sam Kerr’s Chelsea.
Mary Fowler’s dreams of lifting the Champions League trophy have been dashed after Sam Kerr’s Chelsea pulled off a shock comeback win.
On Friday morning AEDT, Chelsea won 3-0 in the second leg of the women’s Champions League quarterfinals, overturning a two-goal first-leg deficit to secure a place in semi finals, with a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Fowler started up front for City but her and her teammates were unable to overcome a first half blitz from Chelsea, but the Aussie and her side had plenty of chances.
Chelsea took the lead in the 14th minute when Lucy Bronze’s shot hit the post before Sandy Baltimore knocked the rebound past City goalkeeper Khiara Keating.
Chelsea – who again were without superstar Kerr who is injured – then doubled their lead in the 38th minute when Nathalie Bjorn headed home off a corner before Mayra Ramirez added a third five minutes later, in what was a first half demolition job.
After the break City rallied back, however, the likes of Fowler, Vivianne Miedema and Kerolin all missed big chances.
It was another brutal blow for the Manchester club, with Chelsea consistently having their rivals measure.
Chelsea beat City earlier this month in the League Cup final and also got the better of them 2-1 in the Women’s Super League.
“We were never in doubt. We had full confidence in ourselves. We could have had way more than three goals,” Chelsea captain Millie Bright said after the match.
“We are a new team, we are on a new journey, we are in a new era. Bring it on.”
