A SUPERB late goal from Mitch Nichols ensured Western Sydney won its sixth straight match and surged to the top of the A-League table.

The Wanderers looked headed towards a draw with the Brisbane Roar, before Nichols’ 20-yard rocket sealed a 2-1 win and put Tony Popovic’s side at the summit of the league.

WELLINGTON returned to the A-League’s top six with a crucial 2-0 win over Melbourne Victory in Auckland on Saturday.

First-half goals from Roy Krishna and Roly Bonevaccia was enough for the Phoenix, who withstood heavy pressure after the break to grind out the three points.
