KENYAN police are hunting a murder suspect after a Liverpool supporter was killed following a match.

KENYAN police are hunting a murder suspect after a Liverpool supporter was stabbed to death following a televised match.

The man taunted an Arsenal fan about Liverpool’s 5-1 victory, after both men watched the game in the town of Meru, the BBC reports.

Residents say the Arsenal supporter produced a knife and stabbed the victim, who was taken to hospital where he died.

Many Kenyans are devoted followers of English football, gathering in bars and video rooms, where people pay to watch in slum areas.

The venues are usually crowded for significant matches, according to the BBC’s Angela Ngendo, regardless of what local time they are telecast.

In spite of their prohibitive cost, fans often sport replica kits to watch the games. Bets are laid, fans sledge each other and fights are rife.

Last year, a Manchester United fan killed himself after his team lost to Newcastle United.

In 2009, an Arsenal fan hanged himself after his team lost to Manchester United.
