Jackson Irvine scores for St. Pauli in pre-season win over Norwich City
A leading Socceroo is in good form for his German club team ahead of the new Bundesliga season.
Socceroos star Jackson Irvine was among the scorers as his German club St. Pauli continued preparations for its return to the Bundesliga with a 3-1 weekend win over English outfit Norwich City.
The 31-year-old midfielder netted his side opening goal in the pre-season encounter at Carrow Road, with his Socceroos teammate Connor Metcalfe also starting the match for St. Pauli before being replaced at the start of the second-half.
Irvine and Metcalfe last season helped their club earn promotion to Germany’s top-flight, with St. Pauli’s opening match of the new Bundesliga on August 26 against Heidenheim.
It ends in a 3-1 victory against Norwich, #Irvine, #Guilavogui and #Eggestein the goalscorers.

Another of Australia’s Germany-based Socceroos, teenage sensation Nestory Irankunda, was a second-half substitute for Bayern Munich in its 2-1 friendly win over Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur in Seoul on Saturday.
Irankunda, 18, came on in the 68th minute as he continued his good start with the German giants.
Former Socceroos coach Postecoglou said Spurs’ pre-season tour of South Korea would benefit his team as preparations continued for the upcoming start of the English Premier League season.
“The really important thing was that we got 10 days of really good solid training,” Postecoglou said.
“There’s some stuff there that we did really well, and other stuff that we’ve still got to improve on.”
Spurs and Bayern Munich will meet in another pre-season friendly on Sunday morning (AEST) at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
