Filipe Luis joins Atletico Madrid teammates Diego Costs and Thibaut Courtois at Chelsea
WITH Diego Costa signed up and Thibaut Courtois likely too, Chelsea continues to loot from Atletico Madrid, signing left-back Filipe Luis.
ATLTEICO Madrid have agreed to sell Brazilian left-back Filipe Luis to Chelsea, the Spanish champions said.
According to media reports, the transfer fee will be about $30 million.
The Premier League club says personal terms still have to be agreed with the defender.
Filipe Luis, 28, joined Atletico from Deportivo La Coruna in 2010.
He is the second player sold by Atletico to Chelsea this season, following fellow Brazilian Diego Costa.
Atletico already have a replacement for Filipe Luis in compatriot Guilherme Siqueira, bought from Granada in June.
Meanwhile, the La Liga champion has bought Slovenia goalkeeper Jan Oblak from Benfica with Thibaut Courtois’ future likely at Chelsea.
Atletico announced the transfer, depending on the standard medical, on Wednesday with the 21-year-old Oblak agreeing to a six-year deal.
The 1.86-meter (6-foot-1) Oblak has similar features to Courtois, who helped Atletico win four trophies in three full seasons on loan from Chelsea, including Atletico’s first league trophy in 18 years. Atletico also reached the Champions League final in May where it lost to Real Madrid in extra-time.
Oblak helped to guide Benfica to the Portuguese title last season.
