ALEXANDRE Lacazette is hoping to score the first of many goals for Arsenal when he makes his debut against Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium on Thursday night
After all, the English Premier League club’s new $88 million recruit knows that’s why he was signed for a record fee.
Speaking at the Puma launch of Arsenal’s third kit on the Sydney Harbour, Lacazette says he’s been made to feel welcome at the club he joined only last week and he’s hoping to make an immediate impact.
“I hope to score a lot of goals, this is what the club got me for,” Lacazette said through a translator.
“I also want to become an integrated part of the team and to play good football with my teammates. I’m looking forward to playing in Arsenal colours — I’m excited.”
His new teammate Mesut Ozil, who has been the subject of much transfer speculation, says Lacazette will enrich the team and he’s looking forward to linking up with the French striker on the field.
And, without putting too much pressure on Lacazette, Ozil says the team expects goals from the former Lyon forward.
“My job is to play decisive passes so he can score as many goals as possible,” Ozil said, also through a translator. “He will definitely enrich the team — he showed at Lyon how many goals he scored and I’m positive this will be the case with Arsenal.
“Until now we haven’t trained together. We know about his qualities, so we know what to expect. We’re looking forward to playing with him and seeing him score, that’s what everyone expects. I’m happy he’s here.”
It might be Lacazette’s first time in Australia, but it turns out he does know about the A-League through a friend of his, Harry Novillo.
The former Melbourne City winger played alongside Lacazette at Lyon from 2010-2013.
“I don’t know much about the league, but I do have a friend who played for Melbourne and told me it was a good league,” Lacazette said.
