Four days after brushing aside the Gunners by the same scoreline in the Carabao Cup final, City scored three times in a devastating first-half display through Bernardo Silva, David Silva and the brilliant Leroy Sane.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a penalty saved by Ederson early in the second half, but Arsene Wenger’s side were once again thoroughly outplayed, with the home fans making their displeasure felt.
Defeat left fans calling for Wenger to quit with immediate effect - the Frenchman looking in excustiating pain as he watched his side’s performance.
“Brutal night for the Arsenal manager. His team now 30 points behind City,” Henry Winter wrote on Twitter.
“Loud boos at full-time from fans, those who remained.”
The result leaves Arsenal in sixth place and 10 points off the Champions League spots.
Arsenal have now lost seven times in 12 games this year.
Former Arsenal player Martin Keown questioned whether things had ever been this bad for the club.
Commentating for BBC radio, he said: “It’s been a sad evening for Arsene Wenger and I don’t think I’ve seen it this bad for Arsenal since maybe Terry Neill left in the 1980s.
“Is it a defining night for Arsene Wenger? Last season they went out of the Champions League versus Bayern Munich, it was 10-0 over the two ties. The owner has supported Arsene Wenger but it gets ever closer to a change being made.
“I’m not looking forward to the Brighton game. If they lose that as well it really tests the club.
“He may even ask the club ‘do you want to keep me here’ because it’s turned that sour.
“I don’t think he’ll walk, but this will test his resolve.”
Tonight is confirmation of the end for Arsene Wenger. So sad, after everything he has done for the club, that it has to end like this.

Wenger's been hammered by the press since Sunday. If players really want him to stay they'd have fought like lions tonight. First half was dreadful and speaks volumes

The saddest thing about Arsene Wenger's refusal to countenance leaving Arsenal is that it will, inevitably, affect his legacy. How can it not? He has been complicit in a civil war after leading a revolution.

What is there left to say about Arsenal other than that until Wenger leaves weâll continue to fester in mediocrity. Itâs completely embarrassing to watch.

The only person in the world who still thinks Arsene Wenger should remain Arsenal manager is... Arsene Wenger. Why is this stubborn, deluded old man allowed to put his ego & wallet before our clubâs prosperity?

Itâs unprecedented & ridiculous. #WengerOUT pic.twitter.com/GJ1oH1y2Vb
When he joined Arsenal, Arsene Wenger was 10 years ahead of the game, now he's 10 years behind everyone else.

Arsenal are on course to finish with 61 points, their lowest total since 1994-95, and to concede 53 league goals, the most since 1983-84. Already conceded more league goals than in 14 seasons under Wenger.

#mcfc fans chanting "There's only one Arsene Wenger" and "Arsene Wenger, we want you to stay again" again. Brutal night for the #afc manager. His team now 30 points behind #mcfc. Loud boos at full-time from #afc fans, those who remained.

Excruciating to watch Wenger suffer one humiliation after another, in full public glare. Not from a Footballing perspective, but a Human one. Desperately lost, in deep pain, unfathomably incapable of doing the one thing within his power to Make It Stop pic.twitter.com/TAhrRAgoa2
