Cop in Sam Kerr racial abuse case a ‘sook’, NSW MP has claimed

An Australian MP has labelled the police officer who Sam Kerr allegedly racially abused a ‘sook’ for complaining.

'Insane identity politics': Idea that you 'can't be racist' against white people slammed

The police officer who Sam Kerr allegedly racially abused is a “sook” for complaining about the late-night London incident, an Australian MP has claimed.

Soccer superstar Sam Kerr has pleaded not guilty to racially aggravated harassment of a police officer, in the English capital in January 2023. Her lawyers have filed to have the charge dismissed.

About 3am on the night in question, the Chelsea striker allegedly vomited in a taxi, was involved in a dispute about the taxi fare, and allegedly called an attending police officer a “stupid white bastard”.

NSW MP John Ruddick took to parliament on Tuesday to label the police officer a “sook”.

“This is outrageous. I stand with Sam Kerr. The police offer is a sook. I very much doubt the officer went home that night and sobbed about the horrible abuse endured,” the Liberal Democratic Party MP said.

“Cops are meant to be made of sterner stuff.

“On a scale of one to 10, where 10 is ethnic cleansing, this is a 0.1.”

The MP argued the casual racism was a “vice” and made “a broader point about the disturbing weaponisation and even criminalisation of casual racism”.

“It is absolutely unnecessary to create a whole new category of crime over casual racism. Casual racism is a vice, but vices are not crimes,” he said.

The self-described libertarian drew NRL controversy into the fray as well, referencing Roosters prop Spencer Leniu’s use of the slur “monkey” directed at Broncos five-eighth Ezra Mam earlier this month.

Leniu is of Samoan ancestry and Mam is of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.

Leniu has been suspended for eight games.

“(Leniu) apparently used an unpleasant term in the rough and tumble of an NRL game, and then that was headlines for a few days. I say get over it! Abuse on the football field is as old as the football field,” Mr Ruddock said in parliament on Tuesday.

“Anti-racism has become a hysteria… We must stop the downward spiral of playing the race card to be cruel to people who make an error,” he said.
