A-League: Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold stresses team performance vital for Brisbane visit
THERE may be several records at stake at Allianz Stadium on Sunday, but Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold hasn’t paid much attention to them.
THERE may be several records at stake on Sunday, but Graham Arnold hasn’t paid much attention to them.
Sydney FC take on Brisbane Roar Allianz Stadium and a win would see them extend their unbeaten run in 2015 to a record-equalling nine matches.
Marquee striker Marc Janko will be on the hunt for another goal and if he does manage to find the back of the net, he will set a new A-League record for scoring in seven consecutive games.
But Arnold says the players aren’t thinking about any of that.
“We prefer the team records than individual records,” the Sky Blues coach said.
“Marc has obviously been on a great role of late and I’m sure he wants to continue it, but at the moment we’ve got to concentrate on a team performance and make sure our structures are good, we play to the game plan and if all that comes to fruition then hopefully Marc can get the record he wants.”
While Sydney are undefeated on the road, they struggled at home before the start of the year.
To address the issue, Arnold has the team staying in a hotel the night before home games and he has also made other small changes to their approach.
So far, it’s done the trick.
“We’ve changed the training program down to two day lead in’s and ever since we’ve done that our performances have been more consistent and the players come into the games fresher,” Arnold said.
“We’re trying everything to give the supporters at home what they want, happiness and success, and we’ll continue to do that.”
