Trio of Jets players return positive tests for Covid-19
Covid-19 has struck again in Newcastle Jets camp, with two more players testing positive to the virus.
Covid-19 is spreading through the Newcastle Jets camp, with three players – two male and one female – reportedly testing positive to the virus.
Following Tuesday’s news that a Jets player – later reported as fully vaccinated midfielder Angus Thurgate – had returned a positive Covid-19 test, it was reported on Wednesday that Thurgate’s housemate, Newcastle reserve goalkeeper Noah James, had also tested positive to the virus.
It has also been reported that Jets’ women’s player Kirsty Fenton had tested positive to Covid-19.
Thurgate became symptomatic on Monday, and returned a positive test on Tuesday.
The news came a week after it was revealed that Sydney FC’s Socceroos right back Rhyan Grant had also positive to Covid-19.
Following Thurgate’s positive test, all other Newcastle players and Jets staff had PCR tests in addition to their daily rapid antigen tests.
The Jets are due to meet A-League leaders Macarthur FC at Campbelltown on Sunday.
“The Jets will continue to work with the A-Leagues and NSW Health and an update regarding the upcoming weekend’s game against Macarthur FC will be provided in the next 24 hours,” a club statement said.
