Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham future at risk with final decision to come this week
Despite ending Tottenham’s 17-year trophy drought, Australian manager Ange Postecoglou’s position at the club remains in serious doubt, according to multiple reports out of the UK.
Despite ending Tottenham’s 17-year trophy drought, Australian manager Ange Postecoglou’s position at the club remains highly tenuous, according to reports across the UK.
It is understood Tottenham chief Daniel Levy will make a final call on Postecoglou’s future as Spurs manager this week, with the UK Telegraph reporting his position is ‘under extreme risk’.
Two years into a four-year deal, Postecoglou led Tottenham to its first European trophy since 1984, beating Manchester United in the Europa League final last month.
That victory secured the club a return to the Champions League next season, as well as its first silverware of any kind since a 2008 League Cup win.
However, Tottenham’s trophy run coincided with the team’s worst ever Premier League season – suffering a club-record 22 losses on the way to a 17th placed finish.
Since the Europa League win, Postecoglou has made it clear he hopes to stay on as manager, telling supporters at an open-top bus parade: “In all the best TV shows, season three is better than season two.”
Ahead of the team’s final game of the season he vented his frustration at ongoing uncertainty.
“I will be honest, I have been finding it really weird talking about my future when we have done something unprecedented,” he said. “I shouldn’t be sitting here talking about it (my future). That’s my feeling, but it is what it is.”
The Sun reports that representatives for multiple possible successors have been contacted by Tottenham, with Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Fulham’s Marco Silva both under consideration.
